What activities does the organization engage in? How is the organization structured? How are members motivated to work on behalf of the organization? We will consider these questions by primarily relying on economic analysis but also take up some of the issues from the vantage of other social sciences.

Gift Exchange and Altruism
While I will repeatedly mention collegiality in class as my preferred behavior in the workplace, you might prefer to think of it as altruism at work. Altruism is an important motive for us, though most of us consider it in situations outside of work. There is a nice discussion of it in the piece by David Brooks linked below.
